Learning Design in The Second Semester

By : Asep P. Kurnia

In general agenda of teaching and learning activities (KBM) has been programmed at the beginning of the school year, but it is also important to make specific plans to enter the second semester. It aims to create a more efficient performance, considering the number of days is effective in the second half shorter than the first semester.

The second semester is the second stage in the current school year. Looks like nothing special, considering the educational claim is a continuation of the first semester. As with any claim, teachers, teaching program, syllabus, even Learning Implementation Plan (RPP) also were made within one year of lessons at the beginning of the lesson.

Basically there are some that need to be considered by teachers and principals, leading into the second half. First , educational calendar that contains the number of effective days shorter than the first semester. This is important, to consider the scope of subject matter that will be presented in this semester. For example, one elementary school mathematics classes, each semester has three standards of competence and the ten basic competencies. While the complexity and weight of the material in the second half, is certainly more severe than the first semester.

We'll see the standard of competence at the beginning of the first and second semester. In the first half stubs; Perform addition and subtraction number to 20 . The complexity and weight of this material is lower compared with the standard of competence at the beginning of the second semester following; Perform addition and subtraction up to two-digit numbers in problem solving . This material presents an integrated mathematical sentence in the material about the story. Material about the story or commonly known as problem solving, requires imagination in order to translate a sign of what was conceived workmanship, so as to obtain the correct answer. The application of this teaching requires a wide scope of time, because it could be in some schools with low levels of student ability, will occur after several attempts, learning, or remedial.

While the scope to accommodate both the material time, it appeared irrational and disproportionate. The material is difficult, logically in the second half, while the scope of the allocated time is often be end, remember being chased by a schedule of Examination Grade Increase (UKK) and National Examination (UN) or UASBN in Primary Schools.

Second, in order to meet the rising class of commonly held by many attractions performances, the first days in the second half will be filled by the preparation and training activities, such as art, drama and other art creations form to fill out the agenda on D-day rise class. These conditions make the concentration of fragmented teacher. On the other hand, demands the curriculer with the complexity of the material need to be implemented optimally. On the other hand, various training activities as specified above to be excellent activity that interests the child and parents, so their existence can not be ignored by teachers.

And third, it should be noted also, that in the second semester, effective day decreases with the number of holidays, such as national holidays and historic commemoration. In semester two of 2010/2011 academic year there are six national holidays and at least two historic anniversaries, namely, the National Education Day and the National Awakening Day, which enables teachers and students participated in the ceremony, so that practically stopped teaching and learning activities .Not to mention the holiday during the implementation of the National Examination, for students below grade. Clearly, momentum is the more narrow the allocation of time available for presenting the teaching material.

How to anticipate the solution of this inequality? Some of them are designing materials with an allocation of time available. Prioritize material that is really difficult and not yet mastered students. As for other materials that are considered easy and has occurred in the first semester, can be incorporated into outer activities, or on certain tasks are completed by students at home. In addition, the frequency of homework is also improved, taking into account the child's ability, so that children do not feel burdened that resulted in shock and saturated learning.

This is one of the challenges the creativity of teachers to create a special agenda in anticipation of the phenomenon of the early second half and towards the end of the school year. Hopefully helpful .***
